50:50 Split the Pot

Our Split the Pot draw is a simple way to support the community garden, with a chance of a few euro back in your own pocket.
Every €2 entry is split down the middle. One euro goes into the prize pot. One euro goes into the garden.

How it works

🎟️ €2 an entry (Maximum €10/month)

💰 A winner is drawn on the last Friday of every month*. You are in the draw for as long as your entries are paid up. The prize is half of everything taken in that month, so the more people who join, the bigger it gets

📅 Entries close at 3pm on the last Friday of the month, and the draw takes place that evening

🌱 €100 buys 50 entries for the year and we add 2 weeks free

Where the other half goes

We are raising funds to match a LEADER grant we are applying for. Every euro goes into the infrastructure that makes the garden work all year round:

  • A 20m x 8m polytunnel to extend the growing season
  • A clean and reliable water supply
  • A chicken coop
  • Secure fencing
  • Tools for preparing, sowing and harvesting

The garden is also a hands-on learning space for the children of Gurtagarry NS, where they will learn about soil, composting, biodiversity and the rhythm of the seasons. What goes in the ground now should still be feeding people here in fifty years.

Getting Your Entries In

Entries must be with us by 3pm on the last Friday of the month to be included in that month’s draw. Anything that arrives after that goes into the following month, so it’s never wasted.

You can pay €2 a week by using the Revolut link below (maximum €10/month) or €100 once for the year.
Email gurtagarry@gmail.com and we’ll send you any further details you require.

The draw

The draw is run by Katie Corbett along with the members of the Gurtagarry Community Garden committee.

Every entry that’s paid up by the closing time of 3pm on the last Friday of the month is given a number. The winning number is drawn at random in front of witnesses. We will announce the winning number, name and the prize amount on gurtagarry.ie / our WhatsApp group / our social media pages the same evening.

Winners are only named if they’re happy to be. Just let us know if you’d prefer for us to keep it to the number only.

For winners who would like to donate their winnings back to the garden, know it is also very welcome and appreciated.

The prize

The prize is half of everything taken in that month only. It’s worked out on that month alone, so it doesn’t roll over or build up from previous months. That means the prize grows with the number of people taking part. The maximum entries per person is capped at €10 per month.

We’ll be in touch with the winner within 48 hours and the prize is paid by bank transfer / Revolut / cash back within a week. If we can’t reach a winner after 30 days, the prize goes back to the garden.

Who can enter

The draw is open to anyone, wherever you live. You don’t have to be from Gurtagarry.

The garden itself belongs to everyone, children very much included, but the draw is a lottery and the law sets a minimum age of 18. If you’d like a family entry, just put it in the name of an adult in the house.

Stopping, and changing your mind

You can stop at any time. Cancel your standing order or drop us an email, and any entries you’ve already paid for will run until they’re used up.

Once a draw has taken place we can’t refund entry money for it, because it has already gone into that month’s prize and the garden’s share.

Where the garden’s half goes

Straight into the ground. We’re putting it towards a 20m x 8m polytunnel, a clean water supply, a chicken coop, secure fencing and the tools to work it all. It also helps us match a LEADER grant we’ve applied for.

Every entry is held in a dedicated account used for nothing else, and we’ll report back to everyone taking part on how much has been raised and what it has paid for.

A few last things

We keep your name, contact details and payment reference so we can run the draw and find you if you win. We don’t share them with anyone. Email us any time to see what information we hold or to have it removed.

If we ever have to change these rules, we’ll post the change here and it will apply from the following draw thereafter.

And please, only take part with money you can comfortably spare. This is a small community draw and it should remain that way.
